Windows Services are long-running executable applications that operate in the background on Windows operating systems, independent of user login sessions, managed through the Service Control Manager. Developers create them to run continuous processes such as monitoring, scheduled tasks, or server-side logic that should start automatically with the operating system. IT administrators manage Windows Services to control which background processes run on a machine and to troubleshoot system behavior.
