System Design Interview
Software Development and Engineering Practices
A common technical interview format, especially for mid-to-senior software engineering roles, in which a candidate is asked to architect a large-scale system (e.g., a URL shortener, chat app, or ride-sharing platform) on a whiteboard or in a shared doc. Interviewers evaluate the candidate's ability to reason about scalability, reliability, data modeling, and tradeoffs between components like databases, caches, and load balancers. Preparation resources like 'Designing Data-Intensive Applications' and mock interview practice are commonly used to build this skill.
