Special effects makeup (SFX makeup) is the art of using prosthetics, molds, paints, and other materials to create wounds, aging, creatures, or fantastical transformations on film, television, and theater performers. Practiced by makeup artists in the entertainment industry, it combines sculpting, mold-making, airbrushing, and color theory skills to produce realistic or imaginative visual effects on set.
