The Seven Basic Tools of Quality are a set of simple graphical and statistical techniques used in quality control and process improvement, including the cause-and-effect (fishbone) diagram, check sheet, control chart, histogram, Pareto chart, scatter diagram, and flowchart or stratification. They were popularized in Japanese manufacturing quality movements and are widely taught in Six Sigma and Lean training. Quality engineers and process improvement professionals use them to identify defects and analyze root causes.
