Progressive Care Unit

Healthcare and Medical

A Progressive Care Unit (PCU), also known as a step-down or intermediate care unit, is a hospital ward for patients who need closer monitoring than a general medical-surgical floor but do not require the intensive care of an ICU. Nurses in a PCU care for patients recovering from serious illness, surgery, or cardiac events, tracking vital signs and managing moderate-acuity conditions.
