iBeacon is a protocol developed by Apple that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signals to allow smartphones and other devices to perform actions when in proximity to a beacon device. Retailers, museums, and event organizers use iBeacon technology to deliver location-based notifications, indoor navigation, and proximity marketing to app users. It's commonly used in mobile app development for location-aware features.
