The Heimlich maneuver is a first-aid technique used to dislodge an object obstructing a person's airway during choking, performed by applying sharp upward abdominal thrusts below the ribcage. It is taught in CPR and first-aid certification courses and is a critical emergency skill for parents, teachers, restaurant workers, healthcare providers, and lifeguards.
