Halal refers to what is permissible under Islamic law, most commonly used in reference to food preparation, such as meat from animals slaughtered according to specific Islamic rites (dhabiha) that exclude pork and alcohol. Observant Muslims seek out halal-certified restaurants and products, and halal certification has become a significant global food industry standard.
