Credit Risk
Finance and Accounting
Credit risk is the potential that a borrower or counterparty will fail to meet their debt obligations, resulting in financial loss for the lender. Banks, financial institutions, and risk management professionals model and monitor credit risk using statistical tools, credit scoring, and stress testing to inform lending decisions and capital reserves. It is a central concern in banking regulation, such as Basel III requirements.
