Family Social Worker
A family social worker specializes in supporting households in crisis, often within child welfare agencies, family service organizations, or courts, working to keep families intact or ensure children's safety when that isn't possible. The job draws on family assessment and crisis intervention skills, combined with case management and deep child welfare knowledge, to develop and monitor safety and reunification plans, and counseling skills to help parents and children process trauma. Most positions require a bachelor's or master's degree in social work (BSW/MSW) and, in many states, licensure.
