# Who can message you (and how to stop anyone who shouldn't)

The consent model, recruiter outreach, blocking, and reporting.

Messaging on Career App is consent-based. There is no open inbox for strangers to pitch you.

## Who can reach you

- **Your connections** — people whose connection you've accepted.
- **Recruiters you've said yes to** — recruiters can't message you cold. They send an outreach *request* with the role attached; only if you accept does a conversation open. Declining is silent and painless.
- **Hiring threads** — when you're in an interview process, the hiring team can message you in that thread.

## Turning outreach off entirely

A toggle on your profile stops recruiter outreach requests altogether.

## When something's wrong

Every message thread has a **report** control. Reports come straight to us and we act on them — see the [Community Standards](/community-standards). Harassment isn't a cost of networking here.
