Visualforce is a markup language and framework within Salesforce used to build custom user interfaces for Salesforce applications, allowing developers to create pages beyond what standard Salesforce layouts offer. Salesforce developers use Visualforce, often paired with the Apex programming language, to build tailored dashboards, forms, and reports for CRM customization. It has largely been supplemented in recent years by the newer Lightning Web Components framework, though many legacy Salesforce orgs still rely on it.
