Surfing is a water sport in which a person rides ocean waves while standing (or lying) on a surfboard, using balance and timing to catch and glide along a breaking wave. It requires reading wave patterns, paddling strength, and physical coordination, and is practiced both recreationally and competitively at beaches worldwide. Many surfers are drawn to the sport for its connection with nature, physical challenge, and the meditative flow state it can produce.
