A stored procedure is a precompiled set of SQL statements saved within a database (e.g., in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL) that can be executed by name with parameters. Database developers and DBAs use them to encapsulate business logic, improve performance by reducing network round trips, enforce security by limiting direct table access, and promote code reuse across applications.
