# Storage vMotion

Storage vMotion is a VMware vSphere feature that migrates a running virtual machine's disk files between datastores with no downtime for the VM's applications. Virtualization administrators use it to rebalance storage load, perform hardware maintenance or upgrades, and move workloads off failing or full storage arrays without interrupting users. It works alongside vMotion, which migrates the compute portion of a VM between hosts.
