A star schema is a data warehouse modeling technique in which a central fact table, containing measurable, quantitative data, is connected to multiple denormalized dimension tables, forming a star-like shape when diagrammed. It is widely used by data engineers and analysts because its simplicity improves query performance and makes it easy to build reports in BI tools like Power BI or Tableau. It contrasts with more normalized schemas such as the snowflake schema.
