# Splinting

Splinting is a medical technique for immobilizing an injured limb or joint using a rigid or semi-rigid device to stabilize fractures, sprains, or post-surgical repairs and prevent further injury during healing. It is performed by paramedics, emergency room staff, orthopedic surgeons, and occupational or physical therapists, often as a temporary measure before casting or as ongoing support during rehabilitation. Materials range from simple splints made in the field to custom-molded thermoplastic splints made by hand therapists.
