RPG Maker is a series of game development engines, published primarily by Kadokawa/Gotcha Gotcha Games, that allows users with little or no programming experience to create role-playing video games using drag-and-drop tools, built-in tilesets, and event scripting. It is popular among indie developers and hobbyists for prototyping and releasing 2D RPGs, with notable commercial successes like "To the Moon" and "OMORI" built using it. Versions include RPG Maker VX Ace, MV, and MZ, each adding more customization through JavaScript or Ruby scripting.
