# Network Model

The network model is a database data model, developed in the 1960s-70s (notably standardized by CODASYL), that represents data as records connected by explicit links in a graph-like structure allowing many-to-many relationships. It predates the relational model and was used in early database management systems before SQL-based relational databases became dominant. Database professionals may study it historically or encounter it in legacy systems.
