A procedural, structured programming language designed by Niklaus Wirth in the late 1970s as a successor to Pascal, with added support for modular programming and low-level system programming. It introduced strong module separation between interface and implementation, influencing later languages such as Ada, Modula-3, and Oberon. It was used in academia and some systems programming contexts but never achieved the mainstream adoption of C or Pascal.
