MITM (man-in-the-middle) attacks are a category of cybersecurity threat in which an attacker secretly intercepts, and potentially alters, communications between two parties who believe they are communicating directly with each other. Common techniques include ARP spoofing, DNS spoofing, rogue Wi-Fi access points, and SSL stripping, often used to steal credentials or session tokens. Security professionals defend against them using encryption (TLS/HTTPS), certificate pinning, and network monitoring.
