Minecraft is a sandbox video game created by Markus "Notch" Persson and developed by Mojang Studios (now owned by Microsoft), first released in 2011. Players explore a procedurally generated, block-based 3D world to gather resources, build structures, and survive against monsters, in modes ranging from open-ended Creative building to survival and multiplayer servers. It's one of the best-selling video games of all time and has also been used educationally to teach coding, architecture, and collaboration.
