Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory, is Microsoft's cloud-based identity and access management service that handles user authentication, single sign-on, and access control for Microsoft 365, Azure resources, and third-party applications. It is used by IT administrators to manage user accounts, enforce multi-factor authentication, and apply conditional access policies across an organization. It serves as the identity backbone for most Microsoft cloud services and integrates with on-premises Active Directory via Azure AD Connect.
