MDX (Multidimensional Expressions) query is a query language used to retrieve data from multidimensional databases, particularly OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) cubes such as those in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. It is used by business intelligence analysts and data professionals to perform complex analytical queries involving dimensions, hierarchies, and measures for reporting and data analysis. MDX differs from SQL in that it is designed specifically for navigating and aggregating multidimensional data structures rather than relational tables.
