Let's Encrypt is a free, automated, and open certificate authority that issues SSL/TLS certificates to enable HTTPS encryption on websites. Run by the nonprofit Internet Security Research Group, it has dramatically increased web encryption adoption by removing the cost and complexity barriers of traditional certificate issuance. Web developers and system administrators use its ACME protocol and tools like Certbot to automatically obtain and renew certificates.
