# Jury Trial

A jury trial is a legal proceeding in which a panel of citizens (the jury) is selected to hear evidence and determine the facts of a case, then render a verdict, as opposed to a bench trial where a judge alone decides. It is a fundamental feature of common law legal systems, including the United States, guaranteed in many criminal and some civil cases by constitutional right (e.g., the Sixth and Seventh Amendments). Attorneys, judges, and court staff involved in jury trials must navigate jury selection (voir dire), evidentiary rules, and courtroom procedure to present and evaluate a case fairly.
