IPv6 is the sixth and current version of the Internet Protocol, designed to succeed IPv4 by vastly expanding the available address space (128-bit addresses) to accommodate the growing number of internet-connected devices. Network engineers and system administrators need to understand IPv6 addressing, subnetting, and dual-stack configurations to design and maintain modern networks. It also introduces improvements in routing efficiency and built-in security features compared to its predecessor.
