Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) was an open-source, enterprise-grade distribution of Apache Hadoop and related big data tools (including Hive, Spark, and HBase) used for storing, processing, and analyzing large-scale data sets across distributed clusters. It was developed by Hortonworks, a company that merged with Cloudera in 2019, after which HDP was folded into the Cloudera Data Platform. Data engineers and IT professionals used it to build scalable data lakes and analytics infrastructure before many workloads shifted toward cloud-native big data services.
