Google Hangouts was a communication platform offering instant messaging, video calling, and voice calls, launched by Google in 2013 as a unification of its earlier chat products. It was widely used for personal and business messaging and video conferencing before Google phased it out in favor of Google Chat and Google Meet, completing the transition by 2022. Many users recall it as an early, free alternative to Skype for group video calls.
