Bard was the original name of Google's conversational AI chatbot, launched in 2023 as Google's response to ChatGPT, before being rebranded to Gemini in early 2024. It used Google's large language models (initially LaMDA, later PaLM 2 and Gemini) to answer questions, draft content, and assist with everyday tasks through a chat interface. Users and reviewers often still reference 'Bard' when discussing the tool's early history prior to the Gemini rebrand.
