Geological modeling is the process of creating computer-based representations of subsurface rock formations, layers, and structures using data from drilling, seismic surveys, and outcrop observations. Geologists and engineers in the mining, oil and gas, and groundwater industries use software such as Petrel, Leapfrog, or GOCAD to build 3D models that predict the location and volume of resources like minerals, hydrocarbons, or aquifers. These models support decisions on drilling locations, resource estimation, and risk assessment.
