Fuzzy logic is a form of many-valued logic that deals with reasoning based on degrees of truth rather than the strict true/false binary of classical logic, allowing variables to have partial membership between 0 and 1. Engineers and computer scientists use it in control systems — such as washing machines, air conditioners, and anti-lock braking systems — and in artificial intelligence applications requiring approximate reasoning under uncertainty. It was formalized by Lotfi Zadeh in the 1960s and remains widely used in industrial automation.
