Force.com is the underlying platform-as-a-service (PaaS) developed by Salesforce that allows developers to build and deploy custom business applications on top of Salesforce's infrastructure. It uses the proprietary Apex programming language and Visualforce (and more recently Lightning) for building custom interfaces, and is commonly used by Salesforce developers and administrators.
