Fine-tuning is the machine learning technique of taking a pre-trained model (such as a large language model or image classifier) and further training it on a smaller, task-specific dataset to specialize its behavior. It's widely used by AI/ML engineers and data scientists to adapt general-purpose models for particular domains, tasks, or tones without training from scratch. Common approaches include full fine-tuning, LoRA, and instruction tuning.
