Elasticity is a physical property describing a material's ability to deform under stress and return to its original shape once the stress is removed, a core concept in mechanical and civil engineering and materials science. In economics, elasticity separately refers to how much demand or supply for a good responds to changes in price or income. Engineers use elasticity data (like Young's modulus) to select materials for structures, while economists use it to predict market behavior.
