COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission) is a joint initiative of professional accounting and auditing organizations that develops frameworks for internal control, enterprise risk management, and fraud deterrence. Its widely adopted Internal Control–Integrated Framework and ERM Framework are used by auditors, compliance officers, and corporate boards to evaluate and strengthen governance and risk management practices. COSO frameworks are frequently referenced in Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance work.
