Cardiotocography (CTG) is a technique used in obstetrics to monitor a fetus's heart rate and the mother's uterine contractions simultaneously, typically during labor or in high-risk pregnancies. It is performed by obstetricians, midwives, and labor and delivery nurses using external sensors placed on the mother's abdomen, producing a continuous printout used to detect signs of fetal distress. The results guide decisions about interventions such as expedited delivery.
