Blueprinting is the process of creating detailed technical drawings or plans that specify the design, dimensions, and construction requirements of a building, product, or mechanical part, historically produced using a photographic printing process that yielded white lines on a blue background. In engineering and architecture it now generally refers to producing precise CAD-based construction documents used by builders and manufacturers. In automotive contexts, 'blueprinting' also refers to precisely machining an engine to exact factory specifications for optimal performance.
