IAM is Amazon Web Services' core service for controlling who can access AWS resources and what actions they can perform, using users, groups, roles, and policies. Cloud administrators and DevOps engineers use it to enforce least-privilege access, set up federated login, and audit permissions across an organization's AWS accounts. It underpins security for nearly every other AWS service.
