Apache Spark is an open-source, distributed data processing engine designed for fast, large-scale analytics, machine learning, and streaming workloads across clusters. Developed at UC Berkeley's AMPLab, it improves on Hadoop's MapReduce by processing data in-memory, making it dramatically faster for iterative algorithms. Data engineers and data scientists widely use it (via APIs in Python, Scala, Java, and SQL) for ETL, big data analytics, and machine learning pipelines.
