# New York Opened 278 Roles This Week, Up 50% From 185 — But Slower Than the National Week | Career App Daily

New York logged **278 new openings this week** across the employer job boards we track, up from **185** the prior week. That is a gain of 93 roles, or about 50%.

It is a solid week in absolute terms — New York is second only to [California](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/california) (440 new, up from 223) — but it is one of the slower growth rates near the top of the table. Across every board we were already tracking, new postings went from **1,267 to 3,018 week over week**, a jump of about 138%. New York grew at roughly a third of that pace.

## The share picture

Because the rest of the country moved faster, New York's slice of the pie shrank even as its raw count rose. Of the 1,343 new roles logged this week across the 12 states with openings, New York accounted for 278 — about 21%. Last week it was 185 of 692, or about 27%.

Where did the acceleration go instead? Mostly to states starting from a much smaller base:

Two states went the other way. [Pennsylvania](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/pennsylvania) fell to 40 new roles from 57, and [Idaho](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/idaho) was flat at 46 both weeks. Small numbers move easily in either direction, so read single-state swings of a few dozen roles with caution.

## What we can and can't say about who's hiring in New York

Here the honest answer matters more than a tidy one: our weekly employer and occupation leaderboards are counted across all boards we track, not broken out by state. So we cannot tell you from this packet which specific companies drove New York's 278, and our occupation leaderboard came back empty for the week — there is no ranked list of job titles behind the New York number to report.

## Context on the totals

Two numbers in the same packet look like they should match and don't. Our snapshot shows **12,200 new listings in the last 7 days**; the week-over-week comparison shows 3,018. The difference is deliberate: the comparison counts only boards we were already tracking before the comparison window began, so newly onboarded boards can't read as a hiring boom. The 3,018-vs-1,267 figure is the cleaner one for trend.

Also worth noting: **22,480 listings closed** in the last 7 days against those 12,200 new, and the open pool stands at 56,995 roles from 693 employers hiring. Remote was just **4% of new postings**.
