# Michigan New Postings Jump 76% to 261 This Week, Second-Fastest of 12 States | Career App Daily

*September 2, 2026, by Ben Garves*

Michigan added **261 new job listings** this week across the employer boards we track, up from 148 the week before. That is a 76% increase, and it is the second-largest week-over-week gain among the twelve states with openings in our data — behind only Florida, which nearly doubled (224 to 438).

For context, the whole week was up much more modestly. New listings across all boards we track came in at 10,028, against 9,189 the prior week — about 9% growth. So [Michigan](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/michigan) grew roughly eight times faster than the aggregate week.

## Where Michigan sits in the state ranking

By raw volume, Michigan is sixth this week, behind [California](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/california) (760), [Texas](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/texas) (561), [New York](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/new-york) (490), [Florida](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/florida) (438) and [Tennessee](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/tennessee) (267). It is 6 listings ahead of Tennessee's 267 — close enough that next week could reorder them — and 29 ahead of [Ohio](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/ohio) at 232.

By growth rate, the picture is different. Michigan sits in a Midwest cluster that all moved up hard: [Wisconsin](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/wisconsin) +71% (109 to 186), [Illinois](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/illinois) +50% (141 to 212). Ohio, the other big Midwest board group, was nearly flat at +9%. Two states went the other way: California fell 19% and [Massachusetts](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/massachusetts) fell 35%, from 309 to 200.

## What we can and can't attribute

Here the brief runs into the data. Our employer and occupation counts this week are national totals, not state splits, so we cannot say which share of Michigan's 261 belongs to any single company. What we can say is which employers drove the national week they sit inside: [AdventHealth](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/adventhealth) led with 820 new listings and 968 open, [Ranger Boats](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/ranger-boats) posted 363 new against 718 open, and [Meijer](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/meijer) posted 340 new against 678 open. [JLL](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/jll) (309), [Citigroup](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/citigroup) (299), [Lifepoint Hospitals](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/lifepoint-hospitals) (245) and [U.S. Bank](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/u-s-bank) (241) round out the top of the list, with [Jabil](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/jabil) at 213, [Longs Drugs](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/longs-drugs) at 197 and [Boeing](https://career.thegoodapps.co/organizations/boeing) at 196.

Occupation is thinner still: our top-occupations-this-week list is empty in today's packet, so there is no titled breakdown to point at, in Michigan or anywhere else. The only occupation-level figures we have are posted-salary medians, which are drawn from listings with published ranges across all states — [Software Engineer](https://career.thegoodapps.co/occupations/software-engineer) at a $240,000 median over 1,246 listings, [Engineering Manager](https://career.thegoodapps.co/occupations/engineering-manager) at $280,000 over 226, [Sales Representative](https://career.thegoodapps.co/occupations/sales-representative) at $80,300 over 174. Those are employer-posted ranges annualized to USD, not member-reported pay, and they are not Michigan numbers. Treat them as a national reference point only.

One more caveat worth stating plainly. The twelve listed states account for 3,972 of the week's 10,028 new listings; the rest are not tagged to a state in our data, and 6% of new postings this week were remote. So state counts are a floor, not a full census — Michigan's real weekly total on these boards is at least 261.

## The wider frame

The board-level picture is not uniformly expanding. Across everything we track there are 56,939 open listings from 691 employers hiring, with 10,028 opened in the last seven days and 18,656 closed. Closures ran nearly twice openings. Michigan's 76% jump is a genuine local acceleration inside a week where the overall pool shrank.

Week-over-week comparisons here exclude boards we started crawling after the comparison window began, so a newly onboarded employer never reads as a hiring boom. More on the method in [how we crawl employer boards](https://career.thegoodapps.co/bot), and the live list is on the [Michigan jobs page](https://career.thegoodapps.co/jobs/in/michigan).
