Marathon Petroleum Corporation is an American petroleum refining, marketing, and transportation company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio, operating the largest refining system in the United States with roughly 13 refineries and about 3 million barrels per day of crude oil throughput. It also has extensive pipeline and logistics operations conducted largely through its subsidiary MPLX LP. It was spun off from Marathon Oil Corporation in 2011 and remains an independent, publicly traded company (NYSE: MPC).
