## What We Do

Freddie Mac (the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation) is a government-sponsored enterprise chartered by Congress in 1970 to purchase mortgages from lenders and package them into mortgage-backed securities, expanding the availability of mortgage credit in the United States. It has been under conservatorship of the Federal Housing Finance Agency since 2008.
