Black Hills Corporation is an American diversified energy holding company, founded in 1941 and headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, providing electric and natural gas utility service (branded Black Hills Energy) to roughly 1.3 million customers across eight states, along with coal mining and oil and gas operations. In August 2025 it agreed to an all-stock merger with NorthWestern Energy, pending completion as of this writing.
