BE&K was founded in 1972 in Birmingham, Alabama as an engineering, procurement, and construction firm serving industrial and commercial clients. It was acquired by KBR, Inc. in 2008; its commercial construction arm was later sold to Pernix Group in 2015 and continues to operate as BE&K Building Group, headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, serving advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and industrial clients.
