AOL (originally America Online) is an American web portal and former dial-up internet service provider that pioneered consumer internet access and instant messaging in the 1990s and 2000s. Once a dominant U.S. internet provider with tens of millions of subscribers, it declined with the rise of broadband and now operates primarily as a media and email portal. It was acquired by Bending Spoons in October 2025.
