Alpha Metallurgical Resources (NYSE: AMR) is a major U.S. coal producer headquartered in Bristol, Tennessee, operating underground and surface mining complexes across Central Appalachia. It produces primarily metallurgical coal for steel production as well as thermal coal. The company was formerly named Contura Energy, which was formed in 2016 from Alpha Natural Resources' bankruptcy assets, merged with the reorganized Alpha Natural Resources in 2018, and was renamed Alpha Metallurgical Resources in 2021.
