Alleghany Corporation is an American insurance holding company originally formed in 1929 as a railroad holding vehicle, which later transitioned into property/casualty insurance, reinsurance, and diversified industrial and consumer holdings. Its subsidiaries include reinsurer TransRe, specialty insurers RSUI and CapSpecialty, toy company Jazwares, and hospitality operator Concord Hospitality. Berkshire Hathaway acquired Alleghany for $11.6 billion in a deal that closed in October 2022, and it now operates as a Berkshire subsidiary.
