- Coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC) or HIM certification (AHIMA) or Health Data Analyst certification (AHIMA)
- English language proficiency in spoken and written form
- Ability to determine and evaluate compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines
- Skill in analyzing complex data and trending results for HIM program management
- Skill in program management including planning, coordination, supervision, and problem-solving
- Ability to delegate authority and oversee people and programs
